what's under yours?

whether we define ourselves by it or not, we have visceral identities within the context of history, forever embedded in our skin.  is finding home consistent with finding another being to mirror your own image back at you, or do we have more in common with what’s underneath that cellular layer?  is melanin thicker than common experience?  does common experience go beyond what an individual has endured to what one’s kin have endured?
